I’ve been quiet as I’m finishing my MSc at the moment.
My dissertation is about the Legal Services Act and whether legal services culture will restrict its predicted impact. It’s been interesting.
I think this has wider relevance – can regulatory or legislative changes affect the way people behave? In the long term, if outsiders come in and circumstances around us change, it probably can. But in the short term, people carry on as before. Success in resisting change in the short term can inspire people to carry on and resist for longer. People will only change their behaviour if there’s something in it for them.
I’ve attempted to assess culture through social media – I’m not aware of anyone else doing this. It’s an interesting (and time consuming!) process. Social media is such a rich set of data, I’m sure we will see more of this type of analysis in the future.
I’ll write about my conclusions when I finish – that means I’ll be a bit quiet until mid September. In the meantime if you have an opinion on this subject, please add it below and let’s have a discussion!
